An introduction to collection development policies on the Penn Libraries site
---
Transcript:
In this series of videos, we'll be discussing collection development policies on the new libraries website.
To access collection development policies from any page on the site, head to the Collections tab in the main navigation menu and choose "Collection Development Policies." This brings you to a list of all policies currently published on the library's website.
The individual collection development policies adhere to a relatively standard series of sections.
We'll be looking at the African Studies collection development policy in this demonstration because it's an example of a policy that utilizes every section available.
First, there's an optional introduction, which in this case is letting visitors know that some related materials are covered by alternate policies, which it links to.
The introduction is followed by a series of accordions consisting of Program Information, Collection Description, Guidelines for Collection Development, Principal Sources of Supply and Major Selection Tools, Subjects Collected and Levels of Collecting, Subjects Excluded, Cooperative Arrangements, and Related Subject Collections, which link to the subject collections' pages.
To the right, there's a sidebar that lists the collection's bibliographers.
Next, we'll look at how to update existing collection development policies on the website.
